![]() ![]() There is no mechanism for subscribing to Spotify through the Spotify app, as Spotify has restricted signups to its website in order to avoid paying Apple's fees. "You can't upgrade to Premium in the app," reads Spotify's "Premium" section in its iOS app. ![]() It’s extremely frustrating and makes me regret switching over from Apple Podcasts.Over the years, Apple and Spotify have had a long running dispute over Apple's App Store policies, with multiple public conflicts over app and subscription fees and app rejections due to Spotify's attempts to skirt the up to 30 percent cut that Apple takes from purchases. This problem also persists across devices and platforms. The problem persists regardless of how I am playing the content (directly from my phone, direct control to another speaker, AirPods etc). At first I thought this was just a bug with the latest app release and would be resolved but it has been multiple months and I have not been able to find others who have this issue online. I have also in tandem had issues with the app remembering where I left off on the podcast before pausing so I have to use the buggy playback controls and it makes it nearly impossible to finish/resume a podcast. I tried using the time head scrubber instead to work around, same thing happens. Same thing with the forward 15 sec button. If I hit the rewind 15 seconds button twice (doesn’t matter whether a few seconds between taps vs immediate double tap) it skips the entire podcast and goes to whatever it has randomly queued next. For some time now (a few months) every time I try to use the playback controls while listening to a podcast, it results in the entire podcast skipping to the next one in the queue. ![]()
